Bohemian Rhapsody- Sour Grapes Review:
Freddie was Queen and they were nothing without the other, because they were family; and that is the gist of the Freddie Mercury biopic – Anthony McCarten, screenplay, and Bryan Singer, lack of direction. Now, that’s a nice PG family story, almost as nice as the family pictured here, and all the kids out there should be thankful for what the surviving Queen members, including Brian May and Roger Taylor, have orchestrated for us.
In addition to a movie featuring bad vocals to depict one of the most interesting vocalists of the 20th century, we also are fed tall stories for no apparent reason: Freddie broke up the band (fake news); Freddie had scores of one-night lovers (true, and?), as well as Freddie contracted HIV before the 1985 Live Aid Concert (improbable truthiness in light of his death in 1991).
Why not?TPV‘s answer.
In other words, the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, staring Rami Malek, whose most outrageous behavior took place after filming, is bubble gum. Malek kept a set of false teeth that were modelled on Mercury’s and
“after the filming had the teeth cast in gold”.Real Quote
While in the movie theater, the movie entertains. The kids. Outside though, if by chance were to listen to Freddie Mercury‘s voice, the film becomes an unnecessary miss. Or maybe that’s a personal take for those having lived too much with Queen‘s music in the background; the impersonation can’t really kill a man. Like this story about a Queen moment, grittier and more marginal and outlandish than the entire movie Bohemian Rhapsody:
Alternative Queen Storyboard:
During Fall 1988, Ella, a 21 year-old law school student, in Bucharest, Romania, visits her on again off again boyfriend, Marius, 26 year-old, in the apartment he was renting in Piata Iancului. When she arrived, Love of My Life was playing on a cassette player she hadn’t seen before. The player was royally sitting on the the kitchen table, surrounded by two empty glasses and an almost empty bottle of bootleg vodka. The kitchen was the only room bearably warm: the gas stove was on though nothing was being cooked. Marius was sitting at one end of the table while his friend, Christian, directly opposite. Marius was playing with a knife and the tapes A Night at the Opera, & A Day at the Races, dissing Queen’s rock’n roll credentials, while Christian was slowly nodding, ready to enter an alcohol- induced coma.
The view translated a bounty of real friendship.
Indeed, all three had much in common: Marius was their glue. In addition, the men were alcoholics, mechanical engineering students failing to graduate, and quite accomplished guitar players.
Ella was startled to see Christian there. In an abusive relationship, she found it easier to make passes behind Marius’ back rather than tell him directly that they were over. The previous day, Ella had made a pass at Christian calling his mother, where he was staying, to ask if he would come out with me. When she gave her name and asked his mother to tell him Ella was calling, she did not think about inquiring who else was visiting.
Love of My Life was still playing when Ella entered, said hello and sat down.
Do you want something to drink?
No, you know I don’t drink.
So, you love me.
I do, Marius.
You’re a liar.
I will ask you one more time, and if you say “I love you,” I’ll punch you in your nose. Do you understand me?
I love you.Excerpt from the gritty relation between Marius & Ella, Fall 1988, Bucharest, Romania
And his fist hit her nose. It woke up Cristian who appeared to be both intrigued and smiling. As her nose refused to bleed, ashamed, Ella covered it with her hand, tears of pain in her eyes, and left. She walked fast to her own rented studio where she had to get ready for the next day exam in Public International Law. She aced it with a swollen nose, which she explained as walking into her bathroom closed door while half asleep.

That relationship did not stop. Then. It continued for a while longer. No one will ever know if Ella never listened to Queen while in a relationship.
